Chandranatha Basadi stands facing north between two ponds near Odegal Basadi. It was commissioned in AD 1667 by Chikkana and Chennana, the children of Puttasomisetti and Deviramma of Narasimhapura.
It comprises a sanctum, an entrance hall, and a surrounding hall. The sanctum and entrance hall rise higher than the surrounding hall. Its adhisthana consists of the jagati, padyopana, vallipatra, kumuda, kampa, and urdhva-padmavajana mouldings. The Tirthankara image in the sanctum was carved into the rock around the 11th century. The Basadi was formed by adapting the rock face and building a wall in front of it.
Chennanna built the 30-foot manastambha and a 40 x 40-foot pond in front of the Basadi and endowed the village of Jinnenahalli for its maintenance. The Basadi therefore came to be known by his name.
The Basadi has an open hall supported by 24 pillars. A seated relief of Bhagavan Chandranatha is carved on the large rock that forms the southern wall of the sanctum, which is crowned by a small tower.
A male and a female figure representing Puttiswami Shetti and Deviramma, the parents of Chikkanna and Chennanna, are carved on the rock. They face each other with their hands joined in reverence.
