Welcome to
Shri Kshetra Shravanabelagola
Shravanabelagola occupies the top place among the holiest shrines of Jains. 8th Utaradikari Monk Bhadrabahu Swamy was responsible for the spread of Jainism in South India. During 3rd century BC, north India experienced a severe drought which lasted for 12 years. Bhadrabahu Swamy, along with his disciples and Samrat Chandraguptha Mourya, migrated from Patliputra to Kalvappu(Present Shravanabelagola), and attained samadhi in Chandragiri Hills of Shravanabelagola. This migration of Bhadhrabahu Swamy largely influenced the spread of Jainism in southern part of India.
